Committee Descriptions

The Young Health Professionals Society is composed of five committees. Each committee is tasked with a essential core function of the organization and is headed by a committee chair and co-chair.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting, welcoming, and retaining members. YHPS believes it is important to reach members from all areas of the health sector to facilitate enrich the knowledge and experiences members can draw from. Responsibilities include making personal connections with new members, conducting membership feedback outreach, and communicating member needs to other YHPS committees. Successful committee members enjoy meeting new people, have exceptional interpersonal skills, and can motivate others.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee strives to form the collective message for YHPS. This committee provides a uniform standard of communication for all YHPS committees. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a communications plan. The Communications Committee is also responsible for maintaining and updating the YHPS website, with relevant content that is of interest to members. This committee shall also supply content, such as conducting member interviews/profiles to feature in YHPS newsletters.

Strategic Partnerships Committee

The Strategic Partnerships Committee is dedicated to building and maintaining relationships with external organizations. These organizations comprise of peer organizations, such as other young professional organizations in DC, professional organizations, such as American Heart Association, employer organizations, including companies that may have an interest in hiring from our pool, and Academic/Think Thank organizations, such as the Kaiser Family Foundation. Each partnership shall increase value to YHPS, YHPS members, and the partner. This committee shall also be responsible for securing sponsors.

Programs Committee

The Programs Committee is responsible for all the event programming conducted by YHPS. Programs may include social, community service, or educational events. Each event may have a targeted audience, such catering towards young professionals interested in a particular health topic, or industry. The Programs Committee works with the Membership Committee to make sure events are meeting the needs and interests of our members. As partnerships continue to build, the quality and impact of events YHPS is able to have will increase.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is charged with promoting the sustainability of the entire organization. It also oversees all board and committee activities, including overseeing the budget. Any changes to the bylaws must be initiative by the Execeutive Committee. This committee is also responsible for evaluating the organization and board, including developing performance metrics and conducting. Executive Committee members must have served on another YHPS committee before.
